For the remainder of Lent, different pastors will be sharing how you can empty yourself, release chains that are holding you, repent of your sins, and prepare your heart leading up to Easter – in order that you might experience the fullness of Christ & His presence! Let’s prepare our hearts to long for the resurrection – to long for Christ – as we journey with Jesus to the Cross.
Tony Aviles & Matt Hunter kick off this series to remind us what this season of lent is all about and invite you to join in as we prepare our hearts for Easter.
They share that Lent is a season of preparation, where we choose to enter into the suffering of Christ leading up to Resurrection Sunday. Because there is no resurrection without the crucifixion, and there is no crucifixion without Jesus’ suffering.
If we want to be ready to celebrate the victory of Christ over the grave on Resurrection Sunday, we need to be willing to choose to enter into and identify with the sorrow and pain Christ experienced.
Philippians 3:8-11 – “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”
